In 1129 the Almoravids gathered a fresh force from North Africa, joined it with the horsemen of the governor of Seville, and pointed the whole of it at Alfonso I of Aragon, the ruler whose relentless campaigning had earned him the name el Batallador, the Battler. They meant to hunt him down. Instead, at a castle in the hills near the Valencian coast, it was the Almoravids who were beaten, and the defeat helped begin the unraveling of their empire in the east.]]></description>
